François Gauvin

Our beloved François Gauvin passed away at Kensington Hospice in Toronto at the age of 62 surrounded by his family while listening to a recording of the music of Vivaldi sung by his sister Karina.
Born in Montreal, he moved to Toronto in the 1970s where he attended École secondaire Étienne-Brûlé followed by the University of Toronto. François was a CPA who worked in financial regulation at DICO and CIPF, and in banking at The Royal Bank and at the Bank of Montreal.
A lover of classical music, fine wine, modern architecture and design, travel and cross-country skiing, François was an enthusiastic member of the High Park Ski Club, Orpheus Choir, Jubilate Singers, and was an active volunteer with many groups.
He leaves his wife Rebecca Simkin, daughter Jacqueline Gauvin, mother Lucie (Gaudreau) Gauvin, sisters Nathalie and Karina Gauvin, in-laws Leah (Karafky) Simkin, Harry Lester, Michael J. Simkin and Caroline Gosselin, and many members of the extended Gauvin/Gaudreau family.

Notre cher et bien aimé François Gauvin nous a quitté le jour de la St-Valentin, au Kensington Hospice à Toronto, entouré des siens, en écoutant un enregistrement d’un air d’opéra de Vivaldi, chanté par sa soeur Karina.
Né à Montréal, il déménage à Toronto dans les années ’70 où il fait ses études secondaires et universitaires à Étienne-Brûlé et l’Université de Toronto. François était comptable agrée (CPA) et travaillait dans le domaine de la finance chez DICO, CIPF ainsi qu’avec les Banque Royale du Canada et Banque de Montréal.
Grand mélomane, François aimait particulièrement la musique classique, le bon vin, l’architecture, le design ainsi que les voyages et le ski de fond. Un fervent membre du High Park Ski Club, il avait aussi prêté sa belle voix de ténor pour chanter avec le Orpheus Choir ainsi que les Jubilate Singers. Généreux et convivial il était aussi volontaire avec de nombreux groupes de bénévoles.
Il laisse dans le deuil sa femme Rebecca ainsi que sa fille Jacqueline Gauvin, sa mère Lucie (Gaudreau) Gauvin, ses soeurs Nathalie et Karina Gauvin, sa belle famille Leah (Karafky) Simkin, Harry Lester, Michael J. Simkin et Caroline Gosselin et les nombreux membres de la famille Gauvin/Gaudreau.

Dearest Beccy and Jacqueline…no words could possibly describe how heavy my heart is with learning of Francois’ passing. How jubilant he always was…so happy to be in love with you.
