Thomas Ying Hing Pingyin

October 7, 1940 – May 15, 2020
Tom passed away peacefully on Friday May 15, 2020 at Chartwell Aurora Long Term Care Residence at the age of 79.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Lilly Pingyin (Hong). He is lovingly remembered by his 2 daughters Barbara and Alison (Brandon) and his 4 grandchildren, Kiara, Ryanne, Graeme and Cuan. Tom is sadly missed by his sister, brothers, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews and all his extended family and friends.
Dad was very proud of his grandchildren. He would always whip out his photos of them and show them to anyone who would look. He asked every hockey team who visited his home if they knew his grandson or had ever played hockey with him. Every high school kid who did a co-op at the home was grilled about knowing his granddaughters too.
Dad had many interests, among them cars, fishing, music and pistol shooting. He was an avid collector of belt buckles, shoes, fine clothes, knives, guns and watches! He was very knowledgeable on his many interests and he loved nothing better than to discuss them with anyone.
He loved his home at Chartwell, he knew everyone’s name and everyone knew him! He was a big supporter of the home and would somehow coerce everyone passing by the tuckshop to spend every bit of change they had. He thoroughly enjoyed the many varied activities at the home. It was impossible to find him when visiting him at the home as he was a social butterfly visiting everyone and getting them to participate in the activities.
As much as we will forever miss and cherish our memories of Dad, after 19 years he is finally reunited with Mom.
We would like to thank Chartwell Aurora for the love and care they gave Dad. He was very happy living at the home and he made some wonderful friends and memories there. We also extend a big hug and heartfelt thank you to all the family and close friends who visited, called, cared for and supported Dad and us.
Donations in lieu of flowers to your charity of choice (Our Lady of Grace Church Building Fund, Cancer Society Canada, Parkinsons Canada, COPD Canada). Funeral arrangements to follow.

I knew Tom when hi worked at Mike Appel spares. I worked across the road at Incar. We were Fiat and Alfa agents so we would always argue about what crap cars we sold and how wonderful his piece of junk Anglia was. Very knowledgeable and a very nice guy, despite his poor taste in cars. Condolences to the family. Diego Volonta

Dearest Barbara, Alison and family
Saddened by the news of the passing of your dad.
I’m sure your dad will be happily spending his days with your mum again, both content in knowing the wonderful daughters and grandchildren they have raised.
May you find comfort in the knowledge of a life well lived. There will be days which will seem dark but your dad’s love will always be a light.
Always best wishes
Love
B

Dear Barbara, Allison,Brandon and all the extended Pingyin family.
Sorry for your loss. It was a great shock to hear of Thomas’s passing. We had some great times and memories back in Zimbabwe. He was always in his element talking about cars. It is such a shame we did not get to see Thomas since he immigrated to Canada. He will be sadly missed.

Dear cousin Barbara and Allison and family. There’s not much that I can say that can make this difficult time any easier, but as I’ve read all the comments left by so
Many people who knew and loved Uncle Thomas or as I called him Yee Jung, I cant help but be reminded of the kindness and hospitality that he showed to us ( my mom and dad and I) all those weekends we would come to visit… the countless cups of tea we would make or Milo when it was colder and I remember him listening to his music all those years ago while we were outside swimming …. some of the best memories of my childhood… I really wish I could be there for you somehow but the distance is great and these circumstances so tricky… please know that we are thinking and praying for you all. And for Yee Jung and Hei Mah too… May our Heavenly Father heal all the hurts and fill the emptiness left behind with the great memories of joy and laughter as they smile down on you all. Love cousin Mark, Aunty Rose Uncle Peter, Ada and family

Our sincerest condolence to all the Pingyin families in the passing of their beloved member Thomas. May God rest his soul.
The history between the Lee and Pingyin family go back a long way, with many happy memories.
Thomas was extremely close to Donald and when the two got together, mischief was too mild a word! Thomas used to drop in our supermarket in Arcadia and relate all the stories of their escapades and had us all rolling with laughter. He was such a story teller. We will miss him.

Dear Barbara, Alison and all the Pingyin Families,
Your family and ours have been friends for more years than we can remember.
Uncle Thomas was a great friend to our parents, Gwen and Leslie Loo, since our days in Zimbabwe. Our Dads were both passionate (nice word for crazy) about guns. They had many guns of every type and calibre…. enough between them to start a small army. When they were not shooting at the gun range, they were loading ammo and cleaning guns together.
Uncle Thomas had a way about him where, even after many years apart, we would be chatting away like old friends who had seen each other only yesterday. He made wonderful friends wherever he went. We will miss him.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to all of you.
