Veronica Bruin

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Veronica Bruin (née Jol) on September 14, 2020. She died in hospital in Brampton at the age of 85 following a short illness. Veronica will be dearly missed by Ted, her loving husband of 65 years, her daughters Kathy, Lucy and Nancy, their spouses Bill, Brien and Paul, seven grandchildren along with their partners: Chris and Kylie, Mike and Meghan, Doug, Karen and Casey, Nicole and Tara, Alex and Jaira, and Jenny and Daniel, as well as four great grandchildren: Andrew, Clara, Jack and Tommy.
Veronica and Ted were born and raised in Holland. They immigrated to Canada in 1955, leaving behind their parents and many brothers and sisters. They chose Canada as their new home and embraced living in Canada. Veronica kept in touch with her mother in Holland by exchanging letters every week for 50 years.
Veronica and Ted hosted family visitors from Holland in the summers and Veronica flew back to Holland every few years to see all of the family. Veronica and Ted celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Holland with their extended family, and with their daughters.
Veronica and Ted lived in their home in Oakville for over 50 years. They made many friends who became like family to them. In 2008 they made the decision to move to a condo in Uxbridge where they made new friends. In February 2020 they moved to Greenway Retirement Residence in Brampton, where they quickly felt at home in a supportive community.
Veronica’s priority was always family, both in Canada and Holland. She tended her flower and vegetable gardens with joy. Veronica and Ted enjoyed camping and travelling. They travelled across Canada with their trailer. They spend many enjoyable summers at Kilbear Provincial Park with their children. Ted particularly loved to travel the world, and Veronica joined him on each trip, while holding home and family close in her heart.
Veronica will be dearly missed by family and friends. Rest in peace Mom.
Due to Covid-19 a celebration of life will take place with immediate family.
If you wish, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Bruin’s passing. Kathy and I used to walk to high school together and Mrs. Bruin always had a smile on her face and a kind word. I remember the camping adventures that the family used to take and she so enjoyed making those memories. I remember a time when Mr. Bruin was in medical distress in their home and it was her quick thinking and determination that made the difference for him. I have always remembered being told about that moment and admired her calmness and nerves of steel. Although we haven’t seen each other for so long, I wanted to extend my most sincere condolences to the family,
Hugs, Raquel Bennett Ahearn

Dear Ted,
I’m sorry this is such a late message of sympathy in the loss of Veronica. I missed our chats before the start of rehearsal. I hope you had some time to enjoy your new surroundings before Veronica was too ill. I know how hard it is to come to terms with the absence of a loved one, especially after so many years together. May the love of your family comfort you,
Thinking of you,
Barb More (One voice)
