Parmawnam Vaitilingam

Generous, Genuine and Trusted SOUL – Rest in Peace
Peacefully on July 30th 2021, at the age of 86, Parmawnam Vaitilingam also known as Jerome (Jerry) passed away at St Joseph Heath Centre, Toronto, Ontario
Jerome was born in Guyana June 26th 1935, blessed with a creative mind and a keen eye for details, Jerome loved to read, passionate about his country music and not forgetting his love in making floral center pieces.
On his Humorous side he always had a collection of words to justify his decision of not venturing into the path of marriage life.
He is survived by his sisters Wilma and Gloria and brother Dennis (Denny)
Uncle of Joe, Vincent, Paul, Donna, Cheryl, Ruth, Winston, Anita, Violet, Brian, Venita, Vibert, Norma, Andrew, Janet, Suzana, Michael Dennis, Samantha, Dennis Michael and Kevin Dennis. As a Uncle, he loved unconditionally and he was truly, loved dearly. Great uncle of Tony and many others.
As a brother in Law, he was known for his generosity, genuine personality and trusted soul.
As a friend. Jerome (Jerry) was always a ‘regular’ and a friendly face and well loved in Parkdale where he retired from his ‘FISH and Chip’ business Joint. He was also known as “the Mayor’ of Parkdale because of the amount of time he spent there. Cheers to all at his locals!
With continued pride and dedication, in all he did, Jerome managed to fulfill all his dreams with dignity and we hope his memory will be kept alive, by all who had the pleasure to know and love him.

Uncle Jerome was a very caring, loving, humble, and generous man. He had an incredibly big heart and touched the lives of many. He always greeted us with a smile and exuberantly expressed his love for us every time we visited. He will be remembered for his tremendous kindness and eagerness to help people. He prioritized others before himself throughout his entire life and took pride in keeping himself busy even into his later years. We will miss our dear uncle immensely and hope he is now resting in paradise. We love you.

Jerome was truly all of what humanity is, love kindness sincerity humility and above all dedication to family. As a young man in Guyana he stood by his mom’s side through good and bad times. He gave to his family everything he possessed. As an older man in Parkdale he contributed to the community as much as he could. He has left behind an example for all to be proud of.
May all bless his soul and give him a resting place.

Jerry,
It was with sadness and disbelief for us to hear of your passing. The precious time we shared and the weekly, night conversations we have had. The Sunday before your passing, you insisted for me to come to Toronto to see you. I promised to come in August 2021, but God had a different plan. Jerry, we shall always treasure the good memories we shared together. You are like a dear brother. Leila and I will surely miss you.
You were like a father and grandfather to the children in Parkdale. You were an active part of the community. May your love, kindness and generosity be an example to others and live on in the hearts of the ones you have touched.
May your soul have eternal peace.
Leila, Pt Krishna Maharaj and Angela

As a kid growing up, Uncle Jerome was kind and caring to his nieces and nephews. A loving and caring uncle who saw to it that we were properly educated. My fondest memories of him were of him making kites for us during Easter and making sure they “sing” also going to my first ever circus. Rest In Peace

I don’t even remember that Circus Vince.
Judith Mulder
My name is Judith Mulder. I lived in Parkdale for over twenty years. And, during that time, I often bought my chips at Jerry’s on Close Avenue.
Jerry died on Friday. And, his passing made me sad. He was 86. And, he was still helping out at Fullworth and another friend’s store on Queen Street. He never really retired.
He was a Parkdale treasurer. He fed the kids at Parkdale Collegiate whether or not they even had the money to pay for the hamburgers and chips they got from Jerry., That was Jerry. That is what I want people to learn about Gerry’s life and story.
As he told me, they could not study and learn if they were hungry. True story. I am not sure how many years he did that. Maybe thirty. He never made money for himself. The teachers and students all knew him.
The folks at the library knew him, too.
I recall him being a very deep thinker and he could converse with you on any topic. He was so concerned about those students. His first priority.
Never married.
He was a very special man. And, well known to the business community and local politicians. He was forced to close because the rent became beyond reasonable .
If you do the background research, I believe that you will discover that ‘lingham’ is of the Brahmin or priestly caste in Hindu.
REST IN PEACE JERRY

This beautiful man is a top class legend! I was one of the many Parkdale kids that Jerry gave so selflessly to. He listened to us, fed us, protected us, and he gently guided us back to productive paths when we were clearly on track for others. For many years, Jerry was the eyes and ears of the neighbourhood, almost omnipotent in his knowledge and capabilities … and if he saw something he didn’t like, he set out to correct it in the most compassionate, rational and communicative way. He really trusted and respected the neighbourhood kids and we felt it. But most of all, he taught us to trust and respect ourselves even as we faltered sometimes! I know he knew how much we loved him but I don’t know if he realized what a profound impact he had on so many of us becoming good humans! A consummate storyteller, I still remember his tales and parables more than 30 years after he told them to us. Also, no one in history has ever worn a flat cap better than this guy. 😊 R.I.P. old friend, your legacy will live for at least as long as we do.

Jerry! My second dad! He was always supportive and provided great counsel to me through high school. I always appreciated the trust and responsibility that he provided while working with him as well as his dedication to working hard and doing things the right way. One of the kindest people I’ve known. Rest In Peace my friend!

It was with sadness to hear of his passing.
Jerry was a Parkdale legend, a very special man.
Always very kind and friendly. Everytime I went to his
shop we had a little chat and I left happier than when I went in.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Jerry was a special man, and my husband and I are very sad to hear of his passing but are grateful to have met him. He almost always had interesting and moving life stories to tell, and a sparkle in his eye. Last year, around Christmas, he gave us some steel drum Christmas music CD’s and we were both so touched. It was a kind gesture that really moved us. Our condolences to his family, we are so sorry for your loss.

Teaching at the local Catholic elementary school I was a regular on Fridays at his shop on Close Avenue. On one occasion I was working later than usual and stopped in to order fish and chips for my family of seven children but Jerry was about to close. To my surprise he took me up on my offer to help peel the potatoes and he gave me an apron as we worked together to prepare the meal I had promised my own family. When he sold the business he moved close to my home in Mimico I kept thinking I should invite him to my house so I could pick his brain about how to make the best french fries going. It seems like a short time ago that I saw him walking on Royal York Road so his demise comes as a complete surprise.
