Bill Doyle (1940-2023)

Bill left this world on June 10th, 2023, after suffering a stroke. He leaves his wife, Pat; son Doug, (Laurie); daughter Katie, (Andrew); grandsons, Mason and Sawyer; and sister in-law, Pam. His family meant everything to him. He was a proud graduate of Humberside C.I. and Waterloo Lutheran University. His years playing basketball on his university team and later on in the Toronto Men’s Leagues brought him great joy. His time and energy was devoted to teaching and coaching with the Toronto Board of Education, retiring from North Toronto C.I. in 2000. He made a big impact in the lives of many students and the community. He was a co-founder of the North Toronto Basketball Association in which both his children learned to love the game. In his retirement, he loved to golf, curl, play cards and spend time with his grandsons. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

What a gentle, thoughtful man Bill was! His competitive spirit came through on the basketball court, though he played with fairness and consideration for others, especially his teammates. He always gave great thought before he answered your questions, especially when they were about an important matter. And I loved his dry sense of humour. He will be greatly missed. My sincere sympathy to Pat, Doug, Katie, and their families.

So many Memories come to light when remembering Bill to include basketball with Chuck and many life long friends and also summer camping trips to Sherkston. Fortunately our Memories are never erased!

What a privilege and pleasure it was to reconnect for many summers with Bill Doyle at Olympia Sports Camp . Our conversations usually focused on basketball memories , family updates and golf games . Bill was that rare person who ” shared the air ” in personal communication …… he would offer his thoughtful opinions but enjoyed listening to other points of view . I am grateful that our relationship changed from basketball competitors to personal friends . Peter E

Bill was a great competitor and treasure for the Monday Night Teacher’s curling. Bill loved to win but enjoyed the competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie on and off the ice more so. He will be missed by all his curling colleagues.

I’m saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. I curled with him at East York. A gentleman and gentle soul, I’m sure everyone who had the privilege of meeting him was a better person for the experience. I certainly learned that I need to aspire to be more like him.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Dear Pat
So sorry to read about Bill. Jim and I have many fond memories of life on Deloraine. And Jim thoroughly enjoyed working with Bill at Seneca.
Life has gone on for so many years I do lose track. Sarah is 47 now! With 2 kids that we just adore. I am sure your children and grands will provide comfort to you.
In Florida we became good friends of Brian Throwers so kept updated on the bb group. We attended Tom Hansen’s funeral with him and my nephew Chuck Jr was there. Don’t talk with him anymore – his choice.
Do take care of yourself as you soldier on without Bill. Not easy but you had so many great years together.
I will give you a call in a while.
Love from Collingwood
