CORCORAN Joan Margaret

CORCORAN Joan Margaret. Passed away peacefully at home in her 84th year, July 14, 2017. She was born Joan Smale, May 17, 1934 to George and Marney Smale in Brantford, Ontario. Predeceased by husband Richard Corcoran (1987) and son Thomas (1973). Survived by her brother Peter Smale and sons Stephen and William (Mike) and brother and sister-in-law Roy and Ann Turvey of Hamilton. Loving Aunt to Rick, Diane, David and their wonderful big families. Joan was a natural teacher. Although her career was restarted several times in different cities and provinces she constantly upgraded her education eventually becoming a special education consultant with the York Catholic District School Board. She enjoyed bridge and cooking and travelling with her friends. She lost her oldest child and husband to cancer and that helped her handle her illness bravely and on her own terms. A memorial will be held on August 12 from 2-5 pm at the Curtain Club Theatre, 400 Newkirk Rd. Richmond Hill. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to “Inn from the Cold” in Newmarket or the charity of your choice.
