Dale Zimmerman (nee Quillman)

Dale Zimmerman (nee Quillman) May 1954 – April 2020
Our dearest Dale passed away on April 11, 2020. She leaves behind her grieving husband Richard, sons Ritchie (Fiona) and Tim (Kathleen) and grandson Henry. Dale had a brain tumour, the kind the medical community has significant challenges with. She fought hard and with the help of her Doctors did her best over the 16 months since her diagnoses. She lived to see her son Tim get married, go on another cruise (we think she’s done 37), and make several shopping trips to Buffalo which she loved doing so much. Dale had a very special talent; she was creative and a problem solver. She put her talent to good use at Sunnyview School where they called her the Toy Doctor. As the Toy Doctor she created and adapted equipment for the special need’s kids at the school. It was her dream job. In 2007 she was honoured with a Premiers Award for Excellence for the work she did with special needs children. Everyone was so proud of her when she stood up in the Ontario Legislature to be recognized for her excellence. She loved her family and her friends and will be truly and sadly missed. She had so many plans in retirement which will never be realized. She had so much energy and had so much more to offer. She was taken too soon. God bless her and keep her safe. A celebration of her life will be celebrated when it’s safe for us to be together. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

I’m so very sorry to hear of Dale’s passing. I am a lifelong friend of her cousin Teena and remember alot of laughs when the three of us were together at Teena’s or at Teena’s cottage in Beaverton. May your family be comforted in this time of sorrow. With love and prayers sent…. Carole Wade

A bright light has gone out in this world, never to be replaced. My heart is broken. My thoughts and prayers are with Richard, Ritchie, Fiona and Henry, Tim and Kathleen.

My heart is broken. I am so very deeply sorry for your loss of such a beautiful soul and light. I loved her from the moment I met her at Sunnyview 18 years ago.
What she did for our students in that workshop of hers is nothing short of extraordinary. I will fondly remember her smiling face forever.
Sweet, lovely Dale ?

To Dale’s family:
I had the pleasure of working with Dale’s son Ritchie at Sunnyview.
Dale gave so much to the kids at Sunnyview. Now she has joined her partner in crime, Rita.
I will remember talking about cruises and Puerto Rico with Dale , offering her advice.
My deep sympathies go out to Ritchie and the rest of the family.
Shirley Placey.

Dear Zimmerman Family,
As a long-time colleague of Dale’s from SunnyView, I saw firsthand, over the years, how talented, creative, compassionate and dedicated she was. But I also saw how funny and devoted she was outside of school, as well. She is truly a light that has gone out too soon. Dale will be missed by the many lives she touched.
You are all in my thoughts,
Shelley Hyatt

I knew this day was coming, but it doesn’t help. The never ending drive with ideas, the builds, the hours spent on web searches, all for special needs and the children of Sunny View. I was in awe and all she would say is ” isn’t it fun?” I’ll miss you my friend. Richard, Ritchie, Tim and family you are in my thoughts.
