David Karl Mallette 1963 – 2017

David Karl Mallette (March 11, 1963 – November 30, 2017)
It is with deep sorrow the family of Dave Mallette announce his sudden and unexpected passing on Thursday, November 30.
Devoted and loving husband to Jessica who partnered in raising their beautiful children Michael (Morgan), Nicholas, and Caela (Declan). Son of Karl Mallette (Bev) and Betty Mallette (Mayberry) and brother to Jenny, Cathy, Mary, Sue and Richard. Loyal son in law to Lee and Nobi Kubota and brother in law to Steve Sherman (Gayle).
Dave was an incredibly proud father who spoke of his children’s accomplishments often and with the most sincere joy. He was an active philanthropist and advocate for causes he felt passionate about. Unit President of CAV (Canadian Army Veterans) and recent member of The Colour Guard, Highland Creek Branch The Royal Canadian Legion. This was an aspect of his life that brought him so much fullfillment. He was known to the people of CAV as ‘Royal’ – in recognition of the Royal Star Bike he rode.
Dave was an admitted ‘geek’ who adored Star Trek, Captain Scarlet, and Thunderbirds. His eclectic taste in music was an important therapeutic outlet. One of his most favourite activities was snuggling in with Jessica to watch Coronation Street. His love of cars was a shared passion with his son Michael, and they would often sit for hours sharing pictures and videos of anything motorized. He was an avid movie-goer, an activity he loved to share with his son Nicholas, usually followed by some Wendy’s burgers. He was overjoyed to listen to and share Caela’s music with all those he loved.
There are no words to describe the deep pain of his loss. David was a larger than life presence who lit up any room he enetered. He touched so many souls with his kindness and would only want this world he is no longer a part of to carry on with just that: kindness.
Dave’s Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, December 13 at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 258. Please feel free to drop by and honour Dave with his family and friends between the hours of 4pm – 8pm.
The Royal Canadian Legion is located at:
45 Lawson Road
Toronto, ON
M1C 2J1
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Dave’s name to any of the following charities he and his family care so deeply for:

This is a real shocker! I met ‘Royal’ Dave through motorcycling and attended my very first Friday the 13th. with him in Port Dover it was cold and trying to snow. Dave was with a sister that day and I learned then that family was very important to Dave. This is very sad news indeed.

My deepest sympathy to all of you at this very difficult time. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of seeing our dead loved ones again here on a paradise earth as God intended to be, “without pain, without death, without sorrow”~Revelation 21:4.
Pam Winter
Deepest condolences to Jess and her children. I remember Dave so fondly from our high school days. Always sweet and smiling and so generous and thoughtful. My heart is with you at this difficult time. Love and light.

Dave has touched so many lives, and people who have known him will always keep a part of him with them, be it a sense of compassion and truly caring for people, helping and encouraging them to surpass themselves. He had an amazing philosophy of life, enjoying every moment. I cannot describe Dave without saying that he had a way with word that is rarely seen. I am thankful that he was able to spend a lot more time with his family these last few months. I’m also thankful to have known and worked with Dave. I would like to give my deepest condolences to the family and the many friends. My only consolation is that he is watching over all of us, while soaring/riding above the clouds. I will never forget!
Dale Troia

May the love of family and friends surround you, support you, and carry you through this grief.

It is with deep regret to have learned of Dave’s passing. For the short time I had know him, I found him to be a caring and committed person dedicated to assisting others through his involvement with CAV, the Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care and as a member of Legion Branch 258 Colour Guard. Condolences to his wife Jessica and family. He will be sorely missed.
Carmela Gallo
With my whole heart I extend my deepest condolences for your loss. During this time of mourning I pray you will be surrounded with beautiful memories, warm embraces of love and words of encouragement.
Dave was definitely a character. His last message to me on Facebook was him wearing a Hulk tie stating ” you won’t like me when I’m angry!” ” Very appropriate, don’t ya think?!” I couldn’t stop laughing. It was always hard to be in a bad mood when he would come right up to your face (entering the comfort zone) and smiled and asked if everything was alright.
He will be missed dearly, but we have the joy of remembering who he was and the impact he left behind.
Much love and prayers to the family.
Sincerely,
Carmela Gallo

Upon hearing this news last week I was completely shocked and saddened, even questioned if they had the right person. I had viewed a video that he had posted while enjoying the peacefulness of the lake that morning . To find out that it was he had passed that very same day was devasting. My heart breaks for Jessica and his family that he was taken away so suddenly. Condolences to the family.
Elvira Ciambella
My deepest sympathies to Dave’s family. I am so sorry for your sudden loss. We worked together remotely (I am in Montreal) and Dave was always ready to lend a hand to help solve a problem and during each conversation, he managed to throw in a joke, most of the time it was a sarcastic take on a current event . In the spring, we attended a leadership training session. During lunch over three days, he proudly shared stories of his kids, wife and other family members. We discussed volunteer work and his eyes lit up! He was a terrific team player with a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
David McConnachie
I, like many, am truly devastated to hear of the Dave’s passing. As a member of his extended family (by marriage), I met Dave when we were both little lads, and I had the great pleasure of calling him a friend throughout the years, first at Malvern CI and then via Facebook and the odd family gathering. His love for his family was always the most important part of his life, and I, like many, enjoyed his updates as he embraced the goodness that life had to offer.
Sincerest condolences to those nearest to Dave, and may the sorrow you feel be softened by the many wonderful memories and the love and support by Dave’s extended clan of friends, comrades and pals.
Candice Leung
I offer my deepest condolences for such a unfortunate loss. I had the privilege of knowing Dave through Nick-his son. It was never expected that the father of your friends would make such a big impression but Dave did. One year we got together to distribute supplies to the less fortunate, other times he drove us to the movies or just came out to say hello. He was always the ‘cool parent’ – the one that was supportive, caring and down to earth. My heart hurts for Nick and all of Dave’s family and friends. We will miss him greatly.
Dennis Budgell
We are very sorry for your loss.
Lilian Pilapil
My deepest sympathy to Jessica and family. May Eternal light shine upon him and may his soul rest in peace.

I worked with Dave at ADP, I am deeply saddened by this news. My most sincere sympathies to Dave’s family, I know this is an incredible loss for you all. I can only hope, that you are able to make some sense out of what has happened and find peace amongst all of this.
Maria L. Gomes-Freitas
I would like to share with all of you what I wrote in the book we made for Dave when he left ADP:
“My dear friend, Dave, I want to put in writing, so you can have this note forever to remind you what a wonderful human being you are and the enlightened soul you possess.
As you have told me, the proudest and most significant achievement you took away working at ADP was your relationships with the people you mentored. The gifts you brought to us came from the same experiences that have brought you tears and suffering. You are giving, full of empathy, sympathy and respect for all. We all love you for it! You are truly missed.
As for me, Dave, you have been the one that has brought all my previous working experience to a pinnacle. All the doubts and concerns that I may have had regarding my abilities, experiences, knowledge and work ethic have all been at their peak working for you.
You have given me so much, Dave – you can never know how much it means to me. You have VALIDATED me in every respect, and have made me stronger and fearless. I felt I could do anything with your guidance and support and it couldn’t have happened at a better time in my life. ”
Dave’s passing has stunned and shocked me and I am grieving as if he was my family member. It just goes to show you the impact he had on my life and those around him, even though it was just a short six years that we knew each other. But Dave will always be with me, as I plan to keep his memory alive and he will continue all with those who love him.
Jessica, you were the heart of his heart, and his family his joy. My love to you all and we at this time are all connected through this man we love called Dave Karl Mallette. I know your soul is where it belongs and you are now saying to yourself “wow, did I do all of that”? Yes, you did.
Shelley Roberts
So sorry Bev and Carl on the loss of your son…. My deepest sympathy to you and your family

It was my Great Honour and Pleasure to know Royal thanks to the countless hours he dedicated to paying tribute to our Nations Heroes as a CAV member, and CAV Leader.
He was a Devoted son, brother and husband, a dedicated citizen, Community leader and friend to Many!
I will Never Forget his Strength and Honour at the Heartfelt repatriations of our Afghanistan Fallen, a duty he took on Proudly, as well as his stellar work in direct support of Tony Stacey Center.
My personal, and our CAV familys Deepest Condolences on the passing of a true Gentleman!!

David, you touched Sue and I in such a wonderful and helpful way when our best pal Marky passed. I will never forget what you and Jessica did for his memorial. And the love you both showed us and our little girl at your backyard parties. I will always remember you whenever I play the two of my songs that you wrote the lyrics for so many years ago. All our love and prayers to your family.

It is so hard to believe that a guy who celebrated his ‘Studio 54’ birthday this year is no longer with us. I love that he went out dancing- what a lovely shared moment for you to treasure Jess. We will all miss him but not the way you will. I hope you are able to recall and enjoy all those great moments of joy and laughter as a solace now and moving forward. We have every faith in your strength and resilience but know that many people ourselves included will love and support you all on the journey ahead.
Rob Dougald
To Dave’s family I can’t even imagine your loss. I met Dave through motorcyling and shared his passion of riding and supporting military families. I can’t count how many military repatriation ceremonies I attended with Dave. He was always the contact person and was always there for so many people. I always enjoyed our times together. Dave was such a positive influence on so many people and so giving of his time and knowledge. I for one will miss his stories and his warm personality. May you all be strong for each other as he was a great man and proud father. Dave will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to spend time with him

Incomprehensible….. what an incredible and beautiful force in Dave touching and teaching all he came into contact with. His smile, the twinkle and the laughter in his eyes culminating in so many conversations not spoken with words. His sheer love for family and all things children are just a few of the gifts we will hold close to our hearts.

My deepest sympathies to Dave’s family. I am so sorry for your loss. He was always ready to support people, to work through challenges and he did this all with a great sense of humor 🙂 I was guaranteed a laugh and to feel better on any day after an interaction with Dave. His support for the Pride BRG as a straight ally, was invaluable in getting this BRG off the ground in Canada. Such devastating news and hard to find the words to express what a tremendous loss this is. To read all these wonderful messages and see the impact Dave had on so many lives is truly touching and heartwarming. His love for his family and friends was immeasurable and his kindness to others endless. He had the greatest laugh and as others have mentioned, that twinkle in his eyes and best of all he gave the biggest hugs and you always had to let go first as he never would. Our most heartfelt condolences to Jess and the family and all those lucky enough to have been a part of his journey.

Perennial friends are those who were alongside as we navigated the turbulent waters of youth.
On occasion we cross paths, sharing conversation and the easy laughter that bridges aging with timelessness.
We confirm in one another the fledgling selves upon which our lives have been built, to whatever requirement,
reminding us to believe, to stay determined in the daily grind.
The timelessness remains here and now, as spirit takes flight.
Extraordinarily warm-hearted and open-minded, Dave touched so many walks of life.
With sincerest condolences Jess and family, may peace and strength light the way.

Dave, Thank you….. for being a wonderful father to my daughter Caela and to Morgan(a young lady we always considered part of the family).
For giving Caela brothers, two incredible young men who will most certainly make the world a better place, they changed her life in so many ways.
For being a wonderful husband to Jessica, you changed her life in so many ways.
For being a good man in a world where there are not so many.
For being there for me.

My sincerest condolences to the family on the passing of such a kindred spirit and kind man. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dave at work. He was always very accommodating and helpful to me. Take comfort in that he loved his family so fully, and that particular joy permeated his entire life. Rest in peace good man.

I was down in the city for a meeting today and heard that Dave had passed away last year. Jane and I were at Dave and Jess wedding at the Legion which was a great affair. Dave was part of the Retail Group with me at Royal LePage along with the two Steves, Michi and Laurel Ann. Sorry to have missed the news and funeral.

Wow…did not know Dave died, crappy. My brother Mark was a close friend of yours and would have been devastated had he been still alive. Too bad we never met, none of his friends contacted me with any sort of condolences? Heard you stepped up at Marks Memorial, Thank you. So sorry for the loss. Kind regards. Dave Houghton.
