Deniz David Oral September 26, 1992 – April 4, 2023

Deniz died suddenly at home in Toronto on April 4th 2023, after a long and difficult struggle with epilepsy. Deniz was fascinated by history from an early age and graduated with an honors degree in history from University of Toronto in 2016. He was a talented musician and a true enthusiast of all things musical. Always deeply curious and passionate about learning new things, Deniz was an accomplished cook who loved to share his delicious sushi, thai curries, gourmet pizzas and baked treats with others. Deniz had recently developed a keen interest in gardening and DIY projects. Deniz had a brilliant sense of humour and a great sense of style.
Deniz is survived by his mother, Yvonne Oral, grandparents, Irene and Alan Hill, and beloved furbabies, Rufus and Sophie.
Deniz was predeceased by his father, Lutfi Oral, and grandparents Hatice and Sacit Oral of Turkey.
Deniz was deeply loved and will remain so in our hearts forever.
A gathering for Deniz will be held at his home at the end of May.

Yvonne,
Words cannot convey the sadness of hearing of Deniz’s passing. Nor can I possibly describe my heartfelt sorrow as a mother.
Deniz is fondly remembered as a witty intellect who, as my most recent memory can attest was also a lover of the outdoors and his dogs.
Yvonne you are a wonderful person and I’m so sorry for what you must be going through.
If there is something we can do to support you at this difficult time please let us know.♡ Joanna

Dear Yvonne,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved son, and my cousin, Deniz. It’s hard to comprehend that someone so young and full of life ahead of him could leave us so soon. The news of his sudden death came as a shock to me and I can’t begin to imagine how you must be feeling at this moment.
It’s heart-wrenching to think that life was so hard on him, and he had to face so many challenges in such a short span of time during his young adult life. I know that no words can ease the pain you’re feeling right now, but I want you to know that you’re not alone in this. Deniz’s father, uncle Lutfi, may have passed away couple of years ago, and his grandmother, our grandmother, passed away just a few months ago. It’s difficult to accept that death is following each other, and it’s shocking. But we can try to comfort ourselves in the fact that Deniz is now in a good place, surrounded by loved ones who have gone before him.
Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathies. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May God give you the strength and patience to endure this loss and may Deniz’s soul rest in peace.
With love and sympathy,
Ali
Yvonne
Dear Ali, I thank you for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. The family has indeed suffered too much loss in recent times. I’m sure the loss of your mother was also very difficult for you and Tuna. Thinking of you ❤

I’m so sorry to hear about Deniz’s sudden passing. We grew up together at Churchill and Woburn sharing many of the same classes, going out on field trips, and playing in the band together. I’ve always thought of him as someone you could always share a laugh and love of music with. Sending my deepest condolences to all of his loved ones.
Yvonne
Thank you Victor. I appreciate your remembrance.

My deepest condolences to you and your loved ones. I remember meeting Deniz when we were kids at Churchill Heights and was struck by how knowledge he was about music, and how he could make you laugh even if you didn’t feel like it. He was a good friend to so many, and a bright soul taken from us too soon.
Yvonne
Thank you Marsha. He was indeed a bright soul and will be so deeply missed.

Hi Yvonne, I’ve had a few people reach out to me about Deniz’s passing. I haven’t spoken to him in many years, but wanted you to know that many people agree that his humour is one of those things that we’ll remember the most about him. He chose to laugh and to make others laugh whenever he could. A specific example from all the way back to Churchill Heights days is his famous rendition of C & C’s Gonna Make You Sweat:
Step 1: He’d get into a pose with his back facing you, legs slightly spread
Step 2: Whip his head around, followed by his shoulders, then body
Step 3: Tilt his head down, and adjust his glasses down his nose with a serious face
Step 4: Belt out “Everybody dance now!” as he swung his Gameboy bag violently by the strap, over his shoulder in a perfect arc
Naturally, this signature performance always made everyone in the hallway erupt in laughter – something much appreciated between the monotony of classes.
My condolences, I can’t imagine what you must feel like. The only thing I can say is that I think that’s the way most people will naturally remember Deniz. By the sheer number of times he brought a smile, or laugh, to their faces.
Yvonne
Thank you Josh. We often wondered how you were doing. Your story made me smile. Do you remember the spring loaded shoes??
Josh D
My pleasure. I’ve got quite a few that make me smile to think of – the spring-loaded shoes in their hazardous, fabric-wrapped glory are definitely in the top 5.

Love to you and your family Deniz. So sad to hear of your passing. It’s been so many years since we’ve spoken.. So many memories and it was always a good time with you and the crew. You always provided a listening ear and you were a great friend. ♡♡♡♡♡♡
