Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Fraser (nee Kay) 1936 – 2018

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Fraser (nee Kay). Betty passed away at home on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018, at the age of 81. She was the dear daughter of the late Albert Edward and Edith Cavell (Taylor) Kay.
Through the way she lived her life, Betty taught us all lessons about love, compassion, understanding and acceptance. Her strength and independence were an inspiration and a comfort; she was an emergency room nurse for over 40 years, a generous neighbour, a rescuer of stray cats, and the center of her family.
While her loss diminishes us all, it will be particularly felt by her sons Don (Lynn), Bob, Brian (Carla), Ian (Gloria), her grandchildren Jeff (Stephanie), Lindsey, Duncan, Heather, Matthew, Rob, and Andrew, her siblings Jean (Gerald) Lockhart, Alice (Len) Richards, John (Marion) Kay, Peter (Gail) Kay, Tricia Clarke, her nieces and nephews, and her many dear friends.
Betty was predeceased by her grandson Adrian Fraser and her brothers Allan Kay and Michael Clarke.
Donations if you care to make one, may be made in her memory to The Red Cross or a charity of your choice.

David and Catherine MacLean, Glace Bay, NS
In 1942, on my first day of school in Springville, Pictou Co. NS, anotherr new kid named Betty Kay started school as well. I recall asking the teacher to tie my shoe-laces, and Betty piped up “I’ll tie them for you David. Oh the mortification! That was 76 years ago. Betty has been offering help and support in lots of ways, even since them. She and Catherine were frequent companions a few years later in High School. It was our pleasure to reconnect with her at our 50th. anniversary reunion, and to correspond via e-mail quite often since then. Please accept our condolences on the loss of a wonderful mother and grand-mother. —David and Catherine
