Joanne Elinor Nelson

Joanne Elinor Nelson passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018. She lead a life full of verve and vitality, and was a longstanding central character of Corktown. Joanne was an avid lover of the city life in Toronto, the arts, the Bruce Peninsula, and frequently serving as hostess and chef to small or large groups. She will be greatly missed by her family – Uffe and Carol (nee Nelson) Braae, Nina Beveridge, Jaime and Liam, Susanah Shebib, her pets (Jumping Jack Flash and Obie), as well as her many many friends and acquaintances. Joanne’s family and close friends will be having a celebration of her life on her birthday, December 31. As a party girl, she would expect a party on her birthday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Breast Cancer Research at the Canadian Cancer Society. The world will have less pizzazz without her. “Hugs, J”

I knew Joanne&Ali B a few years ago and we were close and I can say, both of them played a big part of my life! I’m in tears finding out today that JN as I called her is gone. I planned on coming to Toronto to see Joanne for awhile but I’m heart broken. She will be in my prayers and I will miss her.

After trying to reach Joanne for over a year, I finally searched the obituaries today and to my sadness found out her passing away. I met Joanne in 1966 at the Alpha Gamma Delta on Prince Arthur. She was working at the high fashion shop Mr. Smith. Joanne was vivacious, creative and in essence a survivor regardless of the high and low in her life. She loved travelling and partying. She loved people.
Carol can you contact me please.

I became good friends with Joanne while I was working at LCBO.
She loved great food and wine and it was my pleasure to introduce her to a world of great wines. At one time I gave a seminar to a group of her friends at her store in Corktown.
I sadly miss her great passion for life.
