William Edward Lennon (Bill)

Bill Lennon’s love of life will not come to an end with his death. Bill passed away suddenly on January 27, 2021, one day after he celebrated his 82nd birthday.
Bill will be remembered for his constant sense of community and how he loved helping others. He enjoyed a funny joke and was always ready to tell a good one!
Bill is survived by Jean, the love of his life and step-daughter Kim and her husband Michael, along with many close family members and good friends. Beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews and missed by so many friends.
He was the youngest of 8 children to Ethel Mary Lennon & George Melville Lennon, and lived in Toronto all his life.
Bill was very house proud and loved working with Jean, to ensure their garden was a welcoming and lovely place for the enjoyment of family, friends and their dog Chloe. It’s hard to find photographs of Bill, as at events he was always taking videos with his trusty camera for wonderful memories.
Bill had a long career at the Toronto Star for almost 5 decades, until he retired in 1999.
Bill’s wish is that in lieu of flowers donations to his charities be made: The Salvation Army; Sick Kids Foundation; Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Support of Odette Cancer Centre or Toronto Wildlife Centre.

Deepest condolences and sympathy to Jean and family.
Bill will be truly missed in the neighbourhood. He was always ready with a smile and a wave, a mild-mannered and soft-spoken gentleman…….one of a kind. Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathy to Jeannie and family. I will miss Bill so much. He was always ready to greet Candy and myself each morning when we walked up the street. Bill was happy to help whenever he could. A wonderful man.

I was so sorry to read about Bill’s death in The Star today. We would often have philosophical discussions about litter in Leaside as he was out walking his dog. His latest mission was to keep the bus stops at McRae and Rumsey clear of discarded paper masks and rubber gloves. Thank you for that! Best wishes to the family at this difficult time.

Bill was a “one of a kind” true gentleman who are so rare to find these days. Always ready with a quick and funny story or joke to make you smile and laugh. My husband Charlie and I will miss Bill terribly and send our heartfelt condolences to the love of his life, his wife Jean.

Bill was a good friend and neighbour. He loved to tell jokes and there was an impish twinkle in his eye during the delivery. We have through the years spent many a summer evening imbibing G&T’s on the deck. He loved talking to anyone but those with dogs got special attention and I’m certain he knew just about ever dogs name in Leaside and the dogs definitely knew him.
Condolences to Jean and family.

The picture of Uncle Bill bring such warmth to my heart. Remembering him [and my dad, Don Lennon] and the wonderful family legacy they leave behind. Kind, gentle, humble and a whole bunch of wit – thanks for sharing those things with us.

Dear Uncle Bill, I know him as a loving husband to my Auntie Jean, close brother/friend to my father Don, an Uncle with the best sense of humour and to be honest very hip. He was something to a lot of people. We all have fond memories that we will carry with us forever. Sadly he was the last Lennon from the clan. My thoughts and love go out to everyone who is mourning is death.

Dear Jean, we are all so so sorry to hear about our beloved Uncle Bill. Dear Uncle Bill who gave us so many happy memories.
He was only 6 years older than me, and so was more like a brother , than an uncle.
Uncle Bill walked me home from school, and was part of many happy family events.
He once rescued me on his bicycle when I was 6 years old and utterly lost! He was my hero that day and still is. I believe that you are happy now in heaven, with all the loving family that went before you, uncle Bill! Your loving niece, Cookie ( Barbara Powell-Chamberlain)
