Robert Garfield (Garry) Snare

January 21, 1930 – July 11, 2020
Garry passed on peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on July 11, 2020 with his wife and family by his side.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Janeen (Dave Ryan) and Leslie, and his sons Andrew (Janet Carmichael), James (Heather) and Robert as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many friends showed their love and support during his weeks in hospital and we thank them.
Garry had a long and varied career in graphic arts, promotion and the entertainment industry, always focusing on the rights of everyone to be treated equally.
He was also a Shriner, working tirelessly to support their children’s hospitals, as well as an officer and member of several masonic organizations.
In later years Garry enjoyed his retirement, the company of his dogs, his friends and neighbours and time spent with his granddaughters Emma and Cailin. He was particularly pleased to reach his 90th birthday in January and to see everyone at a gathering in his honour.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors of St. Michael’s Hospital for their kindness and compassion. We are forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in the future when restrictions are eased.
If you would like to pay tribute to Garry, please make a contribution in his name to the St. Michael’s Foundation.

I came to know Garry only in the past 2 years after moving into the same condo complex. I will miss encountering him in the lobby where he always offered a joke and pleasantries served up with a warm smile. I’m sure he is missed by his friends and family.

Gary was a wonderful, positive person who always had a warm and welcoming smile. My wife Florence says that Gary was a master when it came to flattery and dishing out compliments for the ladies ( and their dogs ). He will be greatly missed by all his friends at Shaftesbury. Our condolences to his family.

I was sorry to hear about Garry’s passing. He was the very first person my daughter and I met at the front doors of 21 Shaftesbury. He greeted us like old friends and made us laugh so much with his stories! Every time I saw him it was the same. What a lovely warm and wonderful man. He will be missed greatly. I will always think of him whenever I walk through our lobby. Warm thoughts for Nancy and the whole family. Sheila McCarthy.

I was so sorry to hear about Garry’s passing. He and Nancy were bright spots in my career…fun, loyal, creative and, yes, treated us with respect and equality.

Garry was one of the classiest people I’ve ever known, along with his wife Nancy. It was an honour, sir.
