William (Bill) Thomas Ley 1943 – 2018

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Thomas Ley, at Guelph General Hospital, on February 11, 2018. Born in Sydney, N.S., Bill was the son of the late Bernie and Marion (Burt). Beloved husband to Alice(MacIsaac) for 51 years, incredibly loving father to Lorna(Wayne) and Robert and completely devoted Papa to Brett, Whitney and Kendra. Cherished brother of Myrna(Pat Delaney), Diane MacInnis, Florence(predeceased by Frank Sampson), Debbie(Dave Mullins) and Brian(Tonya). Bill was predeceased by sister Evelyn and brothers Gordie and Donnie. Brother-in-law to Catherine(John MacIntyre), Theresa(Joe Curran), Margie(Albert MacKinnon) and Anne(Bob Steel) and predeceased by sister-in-laws Mary(Mickey Campbell) and Josephine(James MacDonald). Lifelong friend to Mansell and Emmett. Bill also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends that he loved dearly.
After 3 years at the Sydney Steel plant, Bill moved to Ontario where he worked at Stelco for 38 years before retiring. He had the ability to earn your friendship and respect immediately and make everyone feel cared for and welcomed. We will miss his laugh, his road trips, his homemade muffins and his strong tea. A celebration of Bill’s life will be planned at a later date in Ontario and Cape Breton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army. And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you’re far from home.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alice and family and all of Bills siblings and loved ones. Ivan got to know Bill while working at the Legion and we both remember him at the square dances at the Dorchester Street Legion when Bill’s Dad and sister Florence were the musicians. Ivan remembers Mrs Ley working the door at the dances. It was very much a family affair and we we shared our first dance together much thanks to the Ley family. Thanks for the memories. God bless you all! Rest In Peace Bill! Love and prayers, Ivan & Viola Doncaster.
